Dreaming of macaroons...

I found this lovely set of 7 felt macaroons the other day by Etsy seller LittleFluffStuff that will set you back $30. LittleFluffStuff has since become a fascination of mine and I absolutely adore her hand-felted food creations!

These sweet felt macaroons got me dreaming of making my own real batch of macaroons in tempting and mouth-watering Spring colors. I have to hold off however as I am literally due with my baby this week and the task of making macaroons right now is far too much for me to handle. I will however mark my calendar for the perfect day to make my own batch: May 31st, National Macaroon Day!

"National Macaroon Day honors the Macaroon, a flourless cookie. It is popular among the Jewish community, especially during Passover, when Jews can not cook with flour. But, the popularity of the Macaroon doesn't stop there. It is also enjoyed around the world. Macaroons are made from ground nuts and leavened egg whites. Coconut and potato starch is common in Macaroon recipes. Macaroons were believed to have been first made in an Italian monastery in 1792. While monks are well known for their vows of silence, they just couldn't keep quiet about this tasty treat." (credit: www.holidayinsights.com)

Celebrate National Macaroon Day with me in May by baking and eating macaroons!
